Quartz has more recently gained favor as being one of the most popular countertop materials. Homeowners often prefer quartz because of its color variations, durability, strength, and low maintenance. Quartz countertops are man-made engineered product formed by combining 90% ground quartz (a natural hard mineral) with 8-10% resins, polymers, and pigments. This forms a very hard surface that doesn’t require sealing or polishing. It is more resistant to cleaning supplies and chemicals than natural stones, but is somewhat less resistant to very high temperatures. While it is perfect for vanity tops because it resists scratching and staining, it is also a great option for kitchens because of its antimicrobial properties that inhibits mold and bacteria growth.
